kai will have surgery tomorrow to remove her broviac line at 12:00pm. her fever broke and she's doing really well, aside from this infection. we still have to force-feed her through an ng tube as she is adverse to eating still due to her ordeal but we are working with several specialists to try to overcome that issue over the next couple months.
otherwise, kai's development is right on target and even slightly advanced in some areas for her age. for instance, her fine motor skills are excellent and are best demonstrated when she picks the tape off her face and yanks out her ng tube when no one is looking and then holds it up and smiles like, "look what i can do!" :)
although we still have challenges and obstacles to overcome, we are extremely fortunate to have the better part of a bad situation, there are MANY children and families here at Georgetown University who are not as fortunate as we have been and our heart goes out to them, among other people who we have come to know recently (jeremy and chase's families come to mind). aside from her liver, we have a very healthy, happy, beautiful little girl... she's alive and vibrant and the world feels so much brighter with her in it. we hope and pray that peace be with those of you who have not been as fortunate and that your situations will have brighter outcomes someday, soon.
