we were released from the hospital with kai yesterday evening. she has a feeding tube, a stomach drain and a ton of medicines, but we're home!
we'll have to be VERY careful to keep her from being exposed to as many viruses and bacteria as possible. this seems like common sense when you have a baby but, it's even more so with kai because her medicines lower her immune system so that her body will not reject her new liver and she has very little defense to fight off infection.
she's lost a lot of weight and we're struggling to put that back on her with her low-fat formula. hopefully we will be able to get back to nursing her soon. she's weak but she's gaining her strength back slowly and seems very happy to be home. we'll have to go back to Georgetown University several times per week to have her blood tested and get a check-up from her doctors to make sure she's still heading in the right direction.
as soon as i get a chance, i'll take and upload some pictures of our beautiful pink little princess and send them out.
thank you all so much for the overwhelming amount of support during this time! many of your family and friends have reached out to us, as well; we deeply appreciate everything that everyone has done for us!
we still have a long road ahead of us but, we've gotten over the biggest hurdle.
