Kai Is Coming Home!

First of all, I want to say thanks, again, for the outpour of love and support we have received during this hospital stay. Kai was thrilled to welcome her visitors, hear all of your messages and receive so many cards, balloons, flowers and gifts! Even her friends and teachers at preschool have been sending love, cards and activities. We are truly touched by your concern and love for Kai and she is thrilled to feel so appreciated and missed! She's had a rough week and you have helped keep that sweet, sunny smile on her face. Thank you!

Kai is being released to return home with her PICC line tomorrow. Her doctors are amazed (once again) at her ability to fight off the virus and her progress. She is simply amazing! She will be on some medicine to make sure the CMV is completely evacuated and will need some follow up labs, but those can be drawn from her PICC line, instead of poking her any more. 

She also had a sonogram today to check her spleen. Her doctor thought it felt a little enlarged, which could have been caused by the CMV but there is also a common issue in pediatric liver transplant patients where the blood vessels around the liver and spleen don't grow with the child and it requires a minor surgical procedure to fix. The sonographer said that he didn't have any significant findings and we are waiting on her doctor to confirm, but we don't think she will be needing the additional surgery.

If all goes well over the next week or so, Kai will be able to return to school soon. We are all ecstatic that we will be able to spend the upcoming holiday at home and not in the hospital, as well as Kai's 4th birthday on November 28th!
