You learn something new every day! Unbeknownst to me, while I was grumping and grouching about Valentine's Day, it was also National Donor Day! As in Organ Donation! Now, that IS something to celebrate!
One terrific way to celebrate is to make sure you're registered to be an organ donor. Did you know that simply stating that you want to donate your organs on your driver's license may not be enough? You can follow this link to find out more about committing to donation in your state: http://www.donatelife.net/CommitToDonation/
Other ways you can make a difference include joining the National Bone Marrow Registry at BeTheMatch.org: http://www.marrow.org/. Once you register, they send you a test packet in the mail which requires you to swab the inside of your mouth with a Q-tip and send it back.
If you are REALLY committed to organ and tissue donation and feel compelled to make a difference in someone's life through donation, you can sign up for the National Kidney Registry, here: http://www.kidneyregistry.org/index.php?cookie=1
And, don't forget that you can always stop into your local Red Cross or other blood bank center and donate blood or platelets!
For obvious reasons, National Donor Day is special to us... but anyone can celebrate and make a difference!
Screw Valentine's Day... Happy National Donor Day!
