a lot of people have been wondering how kai has been so i thought i'd post a quick update for everyone. :)
she's ridiculously cute, for starters... she's almost a year old now and she's crawling around, getting into everything, starting to walk, she says "ma", "dada", "duh" (for dog) and "ilervu" (i love you) and we think she might be calling her grandpa "dee-da". she waves and claps and signs for "more juice" and "done". she loves books and animals and dances to music. she loves the show "big, big world" on PBS. her favorite foods are grilled cheese, pizza and broccoli, among others.
her liver is doing very well; no problems there at all! she has been having some issues with her kidneys, though. it's not uncommon for transplant patients to have these issues because the anti-rejection medication is really hard on the kidneys. she's taking medicine to help with that but, she will always have to be really careful and drink a lot of water and eat a healthy diet to make sure she doesn't have more serious issues with her kidneys later. right now we just have to keep a really close eye on it, which requires a lot of doctors appointments and, unfortunately, blood tests and various kinds of scans.
overall, though, things are going well and we're just taking one day at a time. so far so good; that's all we can ask for!
