we're still in the hospital. no word, yet, on when we'll get to go home. they are still fine tuning kai's medicine levels but, the main issue recently was that her sodium was dangerously low. you need some sodium for normal brain function. kai's levels were in the 20's and they should be in the 130's. they balanced that out and she is in the 120's now.
the other issue preventing us from going home is that kai's lymphatic vessels are still leaking and she is losing a significant amount of fluid that way. they are taking her off her formula feeds and putting in a central iv line that will go directly to a vessel near her heart. through that, they will administer TPN, which is an iv form of nutrition that will replace feeding until the lymphatic vessels heal. this will be for 2-6 weeks.
she is also anemic and may require another blood transfusion.
other than that, between being poked and prodded, kai is her normal, happy, smiley self. her spirit seems nearly unsquashable.
