for those of you who have been following her progress...
ryan, kai’s daddy, has gone through extensive testing to see if he can donate a piece of his liver to her. we received word that all of his tests came back normal and he is a good candidate. the hospital board met yesterday to decide if it is ethical to allow him to donate. we are waiting to receive word on that and, hopefully, a tentative date for her surgery.
they would like her to gain enough weight to be around 7-8 kilograms before conducting the surgery. she’s just over 6 right now. one kilogram is equal to 2.2lbs (approximately). so, she is a little over 14lbs right now and they would like her to be closer to 17.
in the meantime, she is getting sicker. her belly is very swollen and distended. she has a lot of fluid in her abdomen, surrounding her liver and spleen and the doctors have given us a new cocktail of medications to administer via her feeding tube and injection. she’s on 6 different medications, many of them are concentrated doses of vitamins because she is unable to absorb nutrients.
we are hoping and praying that she doesn’t get so sick that we have to be readmitted to the hospital before her surgery can take place. we are also crossing our fingers that the hospital board approves ryan to donate and that kai gains the necessary weight quickly.
thank you, again, to everyone for all of your love and support.
